As a GIS intern for The Canyon Alliance, I was responsible for designing a custom geodatabase and interactive 3D web map to support local fire departments, first responders, and community leaders in the aftermath of the 2025 Palisades Fire. The project emerged from an urgent need to improve coordination and situational awareness in one of Los Angeles County's highest-risk wildland-urban interface zones.
This web-based tool visualizes residential structures, property parcels, and neighborhood boundaries within the Canyon Alliance service area. It is intended to assist with fire preparedness, evacuation route planning, and infrastructure response by offering a spatial reference that can be accessed easily and updated as needed.
What is shown here is a public-facing version that mirrors the layout and spatial fidelity of the internal administrative map used by Alliance leaders. Sensitive personal data submitted by residents has been removed in this version. The internal version is securely maintained and only accessible by authorized Canyon Alliance personnel for operational use.
While simplified, this version remains fully accurate in its geometry and serves as a general-use model for visual planning, community engagement, and inter-agency coordination.
The following tools and technologies were used to build the database, export geographic layers, and develop the browser-based visualization:
